… in Los Realejos, everything is possible
The history of the municipality of Los Realejos is linked to the end of the Conquest of the Island of Tenerife, since it was precisely in Los Realejos where the surrender of the courageous Guanche menceys took place.
Regarding this fact, the royal historian José de Viera y Clavijo tells us:
This famous position of both armies gave name to that territory since then. So the place where the conquerors were found was called Realejo de Arriba, and the one occupied by the Guanches, Realejo de Abajo.
According to the historian Millares Torres:
On the morning of July 25, when the Church celebrates the feast of Santiago, the five Guanche kings crossed the ravine that separated the two camps: Bencomo, Beneharo, Acaymo, Tegueste and Zebenzui, and the general met them with unfurled flags. , timpani, bugles, accompanied by his main officers, gave Bencomo an affectionate hug.
This event led to the completion of the Conquest of Tenerife and the definitive incorporation of the Canary Islands to the Crown of Castile.
